Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you inquire.
The essentials about fit, scope, limits, and next steps.
Is this a home inspection?+
No. It is a focused investigation of one agreed building concern—not a general inspection, appraisal, warranty, or guarantee.
What does the investigation fee cover?+
Written scope confirmation, the on-site investigation, evidence review, findings, recommendations, and a written report for one defined concern or closely related symptoms. Current pricing is listed on the Pricing page.
Do connected building systems cost extra?+
No. Relevant grading, drainage, roofing, wall, window, attic, or indoor conditions remain included when they help answer the agreed concern.
What counts as additional scope?+
A genuinely separate investigation question. Any added scope and its price are confirmed in writing before proceeding. Completing the original agreed scope does not cost extra.
When is payment required?+
Payment timing and the current deposit and balance are explained clearly on the Pricing page and confirmed in the written scope before booking.
Will you open walls?+
No. BUILD does not open walls or perform destructive work. If relevant evidence may be concealed, BUILD may recommend a qualified third-party contractor and communicate the access scope required. The contractor provides the homeowner with an estimate for opening the area and, if requested, reinstatement; the contractor is engaged and paid directly by the homeowner. BUILD may attend the access work when needed to observe the exposed conditions and confirm the agreed access scope is carried out.
Can you guarantee the cause?+
No. Findings reflect the accessible evidence and conditions available within the agreed scope. Some uncertainty may remain.
What if another professional is needed?+
A BUILD Consultant can provide a referral list of suitable third-party professionals and explain the concern and required scope. The list is a helpful starting point only—you are always welcome to choose your own appropriately licensed or certified professional. Whomever you select is engaged by, works for, and bills you directly. BUILD Intelligence accepts no referral payment.
Where do you work?+
Residential homes within the City of Ottawa municipal boundaries. Nearby Ontario inquiries may be reviewed individually. Properties in Quebec are not currently serviced.
Does the inquiry form book an appointment?+
No. It begins a preliminary review. An appointment is confirmed only after suitability, scope, availability, and payment arrangements are agreed.
